Overview

Jonanjima Seaside Park Campground holds a distinction no other facility in Japan can claim: it is the only drive-in auto campground located within Tokyo's 23 special wards. Situated on the southern tip of reclaimed Jonanjima island in Ota City, the campground sits directly beneath the flight path of Haneda Airport, giving campers a front-row seat to watch jets roar overhead as they land and depart — a thrilling experience especially after dark when runway lights paint the sky.

The campground is divided into three areas. The auto campground offers 22 family-only plots, 10 of which have AC power hookups, along with a shared cooking building and toilet block. The first campground features 20 sites of approximately 80 square meters each, equipped with tables, benches, and charcoal grills. A second campground is reserved for day use only. All areas operate on a reservation-only basis, with bookings opening three months in advance.

Beyond camping, Jonanjima Seaside Park offers a sandy beach along Tokyo Bay, a skateboard plaza, a dog run, and extensive walking paths. The beach is not designated for swimming but is popular for wading, shell collecting, and photographing the dramatic industrial-maritime landscape. On clear days, views stretch across the bay toward Yokohama and the Boso Peninsula.

Pricing is remarkably affordable for central Tokyo: auto sites cost 4,000 yen per night (2,000 yen for day use) with an optional 1,000-yen power charge. General campsite fees start at just 600 yen for adults and 300 yen for children. The park itself is free to enter.

Access is straightforward — the park is roughly 30 minutes from central Tokyo by car and just minutes from Haneda Airport, making it an ideal first-night or last-night camping stop for international travelers flying in or out of Tokyo.
