Overview

Otaki Wanpaku Campground is a family-oriented campground in Otaki Town, nestled in the hilly interior of Chiba Prefecture's Isumi District. Opened in 2018, the campground was purpose-built with children and beginner campers in mind, offering a welcoming atmosphere and structured activities that make outdoor overnight stays approachable for families new to camping in Japan.

The site offers several accommodation types to match different comfort levels. Spacious auto camping sites allow vehicles to park beside the tent pitch, while deck sites provide raised wooden platforms for tents. For those who prefer a more turnkey experience, petit glamping units come with air conditioning and basic furnishings, starting at 19,800 yen per night. Standard auto sites are priced at 8,800 yen, keeping the campground accessible for budget-minded families.

Facilities are well maintained and thoughtfully designed. Hot water is available at sink areas and shower blocks, WiFi covers the campground, and a small shop sells basic supplies. The site is pet-friendly, and campfires are permitted at designated areas, adding to the traditional camping atmosphere.

What sets Otaki Wanpaku apart is its activity programming. An on-site obstacle course keeps children entertained, and seasonal highlights include river play in summer, firefly viewing in early summer evenings, and vivid autumn foliage walks. Craft workshops are offered periodically, giving families hands-on projects to enjoy together.

Otaki Town itself is a historic castle town with well-preserved Edo-period streetscapes and the scenic Isumi Railway running through the valley. The surrounding hills are covered in broadleaf forest, providing a rich natural backdrop that shifts dramatically with the seasons.

Access is approximately 30 minutes from Ichihara Tsurumae interchange on the Kanto Central Expressway, or about 20 minutes by taxi from Otaki Station on the Isumi Railway. Online reservations are available through the campground's official website year-round.
