Overview
Camp Manavis is a high-specification campground in Tateyama City at the southern tip of the Boso Peninsula in Chiba Prefecture, where forested hillside sites and ocean-facing pitches with Pacific views coexist on a sprawling property exceeding 7,000 tsubo. Opened in June 2020, the campground was developed within the former Awa Nature Village grounds, transforming typhoon-damaged land into one of the Kanto region's most talked-about camping destinations.
The campground is thoughtfully divided into distinct zones. Sea sites perched on elevated ground deliver expansive ocean panoramas that stretch to the horizon, while forest sites nestled among the trees offer shaded seclusion and the gentle sounds of nature. Finnish-style log house accommodations provide a middle ground for those who want the outdoor atmosphere without fully committing to tent life. A center house serves light meals and essentials.
One of Camp Manavis's greatest draws is the restored Fuyorosan Yakushi Onsen, a natural hot spring bath on the property. Fed by traditional spring water, the outdoor bath offers views toward Mount Fuji on clear days, creating a bathing experience that rivals dedicated onsen resorts. This combination of quality camping and genuine hot spring access is uncommon even in Japan's well-developed campground scene.
The facilities are maintained to an exceptionally high standard. Indoor 24-hour toilets are consistently praised for their cleanliness, and the overall infrastructure reflects a modern, guest-focused approach to campground design. Reservations open on the first of each month and fill rapidly, so advance planning is essential.
Access from Tokyo is straightforward via the Tateyama Expressway, with the campground situated approximately 17 kilometers from Tomiura Interchange. For English-speaking visitors seeking a premium camping experience that combines coastal beauty, mountain forest, and traditional Japanese hot spring culture, Camp Manavis sets a high benchmark in the Chiba region.
